This book was created to honor my client’s mother, Bia Machadinho, a lifelong writer who began composing poetry at 20 and is now in her 90s. The main challenge was to immortalize her handwritten poems and life reflections in a way that preserved their emotional authenticity while making them accessible and visually engaging for future generations.
To address this, I digitally transcribed her handwritten poems. The visual identity draws from her favorite color, blue, using a cyanotype of a beloved flower on the cover to symbolize her poetic essence. Inside, I incorporated cyanotypes of her birthplace in Alentejo, visually connecting her poetry to her roots. A short biography, crafted from an interview with Bia and accompanied by vintage photographs from her youth, completes the book. Blending storytelling, memory, and design.

This project was created in honor of my client’s mother, Bia Machadinho, a passionate writer since the age of 20, now in her 90s. The goal was to immortalize her poetry, including her reflections on life and family. I worked with her handwritten poems, digitally transcribing them.
The design reflects her love for the color blue, featuring a cyanotype of a flower she cherishes on the cover.
